[Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of the brachiocephalic arteries].

چکیده
Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty was used to treat atherosclerotic lesions in 22 brachiocephalic arteries in 20 patients during a 2 1/2 year period. Seven subclavian, 13 vertebral, one external carotid, and one common carotid arteries were involved. Nineteen arteries were successfully dilated, but dilatation of two vertebral arteries and attempted recanalization of one subclavian artery failed. The first patient treated was still asymptomatic at 30 months and no symptoms recurred in any of the successfully treated patients. No complications were encountered during these procedures.

ABSTRACT Renal artery stenosis is one of the treatable causes of systemic hypertension in children. For years surgery was the treatment of choice, but recently PTRA (Percutaneous Transluminal Renal Angioplasty) has been successfully performed for relief of the stenosis. This method compared with surgery is safe, simple and has lower complication rate. At times stent placement is performed in co...

Introduction: Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) is an effective method for revascularizing of stenotic coronary vessels. Lack of response to this treatment, either in symptomatic or asymptomatic patients, is usually due to incomplete revascularization, restenosis, and/or irreversibility of myocardial perfusion. Introduction of a noninvasive metho...

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) using a coax ial catheter system was reported by Dotter and Judkins [1] in 1964. Ten years later in 1974, Gruntzig and Hopff [2] reported the development and successful clinical use of a doublelumen balloon catheter. The smaller diameter and flexibi lity of the catheter made possible more selective vessel dilatations. The balloon is of low compliance ...

Several recent reports [1-7] have discussed the potential use of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) for treatment of stenotic lesions of the brachiocephalic vessels. We report a case of successful angioplasty in a patient with innominate artery stenosis associated with reversal of blood flow in the right vertebral artery (right subclavian steal). The risk of cerebral embolization was r...

Innominate and common carotid artery lesions have usually been treated surgically with extra-anatomic bypass via a cervical approach or median sternotomy. The transtoracic approach succeeded in providing direct access to proximal aortic arch branch vessel lesions, but these approach was associated with rather high mortality rate (22%) [1-4]. In 1967, Diethrich et al. [5] reported the first extr...
